Self-Portrait: An Experiment with Lightroom 3 beta

Lightroom 3 beta has some nice new features that should be spectacular in the final release. It has a grain effect that looks more like film grain than effects I have seen before, especially when used on a noisy, high-ISO image. For this experiment, I took this image at ISO 1600 on my camera(extremely noisy), made it into an HDR(more than tripling the digital noise), and the brought it into Lightroom 3 beta, cross-processed, applied noise reduction and then a bit of grain effect. Much different than anything I would usually do, I still like the results.

nice effect... there is something about it that draws me in... maybe because of the eyes... like in a scary movie where all you see is the eyes....spooky for halloween....

Sinister lighting, the kind used often in the 1930s and 40s horror film genre movies - you now share the stage with great names in scary movies - Lon Chaney Jr, Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Peter Lorre, Vincent Price and others.

@Viewfinder: That's the kind of lighting I was going for, and immediately thought of all of those old favorite movies when I took it to grayscale and started the cross-processing. Thank you for the great compliment, Glenn, I love all those stars from the B&W horror genre.

@Earnest: Ha! It does look a bit reminiscent of Van Gogh's "Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear", especially in the angle of my face.
