The Old 59 Bridge (Post # 300)Posted by Eric Fry (Houston, TX, United States) on 5 October 2008 in Transportation and Portfolio. When I first moved to this area back in 1972, this old bridge was the only crossing of the San Jacinto river on U.S. Highway 59. Two-way traffic at highway speeds made it a tenuous crossing at best. A few years later, new bridges were built across the river, and this bridge became the northbound feeder road. In the early nineties, this bridge was closed and slated for demolition, but some appeals to the state Department of Transportation spared it for its historical value. Today, it has been converted into a fishing and observation pier. The metal handrails and lights in the center were part of that renovation. Made from 5 exposures, taken just before sunrise. Thanks for visiting, and I hope you all have a great day, Check out the photography of a friend of mine outside of Aminus3:
