Hurricane Ike Series - PowerlessPosted by Eric Fry (Houston, TX, United States) on 27 September 2008 in Miscellaneous. Power lines were down all over the Houston area, with over two dozen in my neighborhood. Linemen from all over the U.S have converged on the Houston area to begin the huge task of setting new poles, hanging new line, and restoring power to the communities. While the workers have done an outstanding job, the management of CenterPoint Energy is drawing a great deal of well-deserved criticism for their decisions on how to proceed with repairs. This photo was taken on 24 September, 12 days after Hurricane Ike had passed. It was the first work done in my neighborhood, a community of about 6000 people. Hopefully the power will be back on at my house by the time you read this! (edit to add: My electricity came on yesterday evening about 5:00 pm. 13 days without power. Boy am I glad to be back on the grid!)
Thanks for visiting, and I hope you all have a great day, Check out the photography of a friend of mine outside of Aminus3:

Maxine from Rangiora, New ZealandYee Hah power again! welcome back to cyberspace! 13 days is a long time without power, did you have a gas cooker or bbq to help? 27 Sep 2008 7:16am Linerberry from Sumner, Christchurch, New ZealandGosh it must be sooo frustrating Eric!!!! 13 days without power is no joke. It sounds totally mismanaged, and considering this happens quite a lot for you guys i think its time to seriously look at whats happening and how the recovery time can be improved! Look at me on my 'soap box'. I'm just glad you are ok and that Huston (or parts of it) are getting back to normal (ish). 27 Sep 2008 8:37am Marion from Nanaimo, BC, CanadaI guess they are working from dawn to dusk and beyond. What a massive job. 13 days without power is a very long time and I bet you are happier than a puppy with a new bone to have it back. Time to have a long hot shower, get all the washes done and cook yourself a scrumptious meal. Take care Eric. 27 Sep 2008 6:09pm Jim from Atascocita, TX, United StatesTalked to my wife today and she is still without power at home in Atascocita. I have been deployed to Louisiana to perform inspections for FEMA for the past week and no telling how much longer. I have to wonder why they would send me here when my Hometown (Houston area) is so devastated, but then this is our Government. These folks over here need help too, but not on the scale of Houston/Galveston/Bolivar and surrounding areas...Hope you get your power on soon, at least over here in the Hotel, I have power and the internet. 28 Sep 2008 4:25am Earnest from Oklahoma, United StatesI saw tons of these in Houston all the way out of Conroe and further north... 29 Sep 2008 12:30pm |
