All Our Yesterdays

Another HDR attempt. I've figured out that I need to process the images in Lightroom first to defringe the images, and then merge into an HDR. They'll get better, I promise!

As they say Eric, practice makes perfect, and you certainly on the right road here, just a tweak needed with regard to the high contrast. Very good shot.

@Observing: Thanks, Mike. This wasn't rally a good choice of photos for an HDR, because the sun was directly at the center of the image, shooting straight into it. Even at the lowest exposure I had taken, it was still completely blown out in the highlights.

Just got back from the beach, and got some fantastic dawn exposures to do in HDR. I think they're going to work out very well.

Hmmm.... Love the scene and the rich colors. I'd agree that there may be a little too much contrast. The quote is perfect for this scene!

@willow: Thanks, Willow. As I mentioned to Mike, it's rally not over-contrasted, but just completely blown-out. This, like yesterday's, was just an experiment in using the Photomatix Pro HDR program. I didn't have a tripod when I took these two images, and there's more misalignment than I would like. The program still did a fairly good job of getting them pretty close though.

I'm off to work on the sunrise photos I took this morning. It was quite a glorious dawn, and I got some great shots.

beautiful scene, tho' maybe a bit too much saturation, especially with the greens. there also seems to be some significant purple fringing, tho' that might be an artifact of the hdr conversion. i'd love to see this in non-hdr, just to get a look at the scene in its more normal state...

can't wait to start seeing those sunrise pics...

@paulski: I agree, Paul. There is a lot of fringing in that shot, some from the camera and some from misalignment of the images (I wasn't using a trpod that day). But since I read the tutorial (I certainly wasn't about to do that first! That's for people that don't know what they're doing, like me! ;D) it described using Lightroom for defringing as the HDR processor exaggerates fringes. The main problem with this shot is that it was simply taken at the wrong time of day to get a really good image of the place. I'll definitely get out there at a better time of day for a shot!

wow -- just a lovely wooded scene here! never fear regarding mastering this process, i have heard that HDR takes a good while to get the hang of. looks like you are about to crack the seed! and this saturation is quite surreal and captivating of its own accord! i feel like this could be some sort of magical fantasy land -- where are the sprites and gnomes? ;)

also to consider -- i have been collection some info for later use for myself regarding HDR -- try taking 1 RAW shot and then saving it as three different files. once you have done that you can choose to process one as over exposed, one as under exposed and one as normal... i have seen some truly amazing and natural results -- doesn't even look like HDR! that is going to be my next 'focus' when i get my new lens and computer!

@dj.tigersprout: Thanks, DJ. It is one of the more beautiful spots on the East End Park trail. It's very heavily shaded there, so a well exposed shot is kind of tricky. Once it cools down a bit I'm going to get one there in the late afternoon when the sun will be behind my back.

I've read that about processing a single RAW file like that, but I'll have to wait until I can afford a real camera before I can do that, as my little Nikon only saves in jpeg.
