Morning Rest
Posted by Eric Fry (Houston, TX, United States) on 31 July 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.
Taken at East End Park, Kingwood, TX.
It was getting close to 8 am and almost 3 miles into the walk when we reached this spot. It was miserably hot and humid by this time, almost 88 degrees already. I sat down from this angle and snapped a few shots and just sat there for a bit; I didn't want to sit on the bench, as it was in the full sun!
And now, for a few thoughts that have come to me regarding a post that Willow made a couple of days ago. A few months ago, I was feeling very dissatisfied with my photos, and didn't know how to deal with it. I had been making a bit of improvement in my composition and processing, but just didn't like my pictures. I had learned a lot from looking at many photos here on Aminus3, and had begun to compare my work to that of others. What I had to do to change what I felt was to look at my photography in an entirely different way. I had been satisfied with pretty colors and scenes, but I had grown to the point that I had to begin trying to put some sort of emotional aspect into my photos. And the way I had accomplished that was to do something completely fun and funny. Since then, my photography has been much more satisfying to me, and I hope to others as well. That's the dilemma of Aminus3; all of the great photos and comments can bring a sense of dissatisfaction about one's own work as one begins to do some better work. But, the solution to that dissatisfaction, and the key to personal improvement (for me, at least) can be found in the same place. I just had to look at everything a bit differently...
