Cockrell Butterfly Center Series - 15

This one is my favorite shot of the whole series, and was one of the first shots of the day. This one alone was worth the price of admission!

I hope you've enjoyed viewing these photos as much as I enjoyed taking them. The beginning of the series can be found here.

Tomorrow will start a few photos from my recent vacation, then it's back to some of my more typical insect photos. Some more shots from the beach will be up in a week or so.

Eric, this is a fabulous series and I agree about this being the blue ribbon image winner. What red-leaf plant is this they're feeding on?

@Stephen Phillips: Thank you very much for the compliment, Stephen! I have no idea what this plant it, but I plan on returning n a month or two to do some shots of the interesting plants there. Many of them are imported from South America to provide familiar blooms and the proper foliage for the caterpillars to eat. I'll make sure to ask what this one is.

@Earnest: Thank you very much, Earnest. This is the first photo of mine that I felt was a true "composition." It was completely composed in the camera, with just a tiny bit of cropping on the right side to clean up the background. Most of my other shots have had the majority of the composition done in processing, but I have gotten much better at composing in-camera since this I did this series.

A stunning image, Eric ... so colorful and beautifully composed. In early spring I went to the Butterfly House here in St. Louis and shot ... it was a lot of fun with some incredible butterflies ... it took about 10 minutes before I could get my camera acclimated to the humidity in the exhibit.

@Ron: Thank you very much for the wonderful compliment, Ron. Fortunately, here in Houston, it was actually a little bit cooler inside the Cocrkell than it was outside that morning, so my camera was already prepared for the humidity inside! LOL
