Eric,

The lighting really makes this shot! And even though the butterfly is amazing, I am really drawn to the detail and vibrant color in the leaves it's sitting on. Beautifully done as always!

@willow: Thank you so much, Willow! I really appreciate all the wonderful compliments from you and everyone else.

I toned down the highlights a bit and slightly brightened up the shadows in Lightroom, as I felt that they were too extreme at the time (the highlights were almost to the point of being blown out). I've generally tried to even out the lighting levels to bring out as much detail as possible in the whole photo, but, I've recently downloaded some different presets for Lightroom and have been playing with some extreme (for me, at least) lighting and color variances on some still life shots, and have been pleased with the results. I'll probably shuffle around some future posts to get them up sooner.

as always -- such beautiful detail and color!! but i am really enjoying the light and composition in this too! the jagged leaves seem to imitate the wings of the butterfly. marvelous!
