@Roman: The graininess in this shot compared to previous ones comes solely from the higher ISO; it's really just more digital noise. I shoot a lot using the Macro preset mode rather than going to Aperture priority or Manual and using the macro focus settings, because it's quicker and tends to focus better. I can control the ISO in AP or Manual, but the Macro mode auto-selects from ISO 64 to 400.

My Nikon will focus at 1.9 inches, so I try to get as close as possible when shooting macros and close-ups. Once the bug gets still, I'll start out a few feet from it while zoomed in, and take a series as I slowly move closer to the subject. That way, I get a lot of freedom in what I choose to process and post. Since the P5100 has a 12 megapixel sensor, I can get a lot of detail on each shot, and the closer I can get, the more detail and less cropping I have to do. In the photos here, and here, I was about 3 inches away. In this one I was about 6 inches away.On today's photo, I was probably a few feet away and zoomed in a bit. I do like to get as close as I can, just because I like stalking these little creatures.
