Mating SeasonPosted by Eric Fry (Houston, TX, United States) on 5 May 2008 in Animal & Insect. Two Copperhead snakes after mating. The female is the lighter colored one on the left. These snakes are venomous, but generally only fatal to children and animals weighing less than 50 pounds. Taken at East End Park, Kingwood, TX. Thanks for visiting, and I hope you all have a great day, I'm going with the new Caspian Green template to show my support for our Aminus3 photobloggers in Iran. Many of them have been very courageous in bringing us photos from Iran during these uncertain times there; they deserve and need your support, too. Check out the photography of a couple of my friends outside of Aminus3: DougOrama's Sports and Concert Photography - I wish I could take photos like DougO's...

Wizened Eye from United StatesNice to see another human who appreciates snakes... although I must admit our local slitherers are all non-venomous. ; ) I have several macro shots of a garter snake that lived in my garden, but everyone who sees them says, "Eeeeewww!" Very nice photo both for content (love the "snakeskin" pattern repeated on the branch in upper right) and the technical clarity of the shot. And thanks for the information in your descriptive comment. 6 May 2008 10:52am @Wizened Eye: Thanks for the great comment. These guys blend very well into the leaves and litter on the forest floor. My friend and I kept imagining more along the path the rest of the afternoon. |
