Mating Season

Posted by Eric Fry (Houston, TX, United States) on 5 May 2008 in Animal & Insect.

Two Copperhead snakes after mating. The female is the lighter colored one on the left. These snakes are venomous, but generally only fatal to children and animals weighing less than 50 pounds.

Taken at East End Park, Kingwood, TX.

Thanks for visiting, and I hope you all have a great day,
Eric

Nice to see another human who appreciates snakes... although I must admit our local slitherers are all non-venomous. ; ) I have several macro shots of a garter snake that lived in my garden, but everyone who sees them says, "Eeeeewww!"

Very nice photo both for content (love the "snakeskin" pattern repeated on the branch in upper right) and the technical clarity of the shot. And thanks for the information in your descriptive comment.

@Wizened Eye: Thanks for the great comment. These guys blend very well into the leaves and litter on the forest floor. My friend and I kept imagining more along the path the rest of the afternoon.
